JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Program Manager, Pre-Assessment/Day Surgery, the registered nurse is responsible and accountable for the provision of safe, effective, patient focused nursing care to patients and families. In collaboration with the family and other team members, the registered nurse is responsible for the ongoing assessment and monitoring of the patient’s health status, identification of patient/family needs and the development of plans to meet those needs, the provision of direct patient care and the evaluation of care. The registered nurse also participates in the ongoing professional development of self and others, and in unit and hospital wide quality improvement initiatives. The registered nurse will be expected to work in all areas [i.e. Local & Adult Day Surgery] 

The registered nurse is responsible for the application of current theory and research in the delivery of care consistent with the vision and values of the hospital and the standards of relevant professional organizations.

The registered nurse complies with the Occupational Health and Safety standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current 2 years of acute nursing experience – required
  • Care of the patient receiving conscious sedation and cardiac monitoring - preferred
  • Recent experience (within the last two years) of Adult Day Surgery/Day Procedures, preferred
  • Responsible for opening and closing department on regular basis
  • Willingness to participate in process improvement
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all patients, staff, visitors and physicians
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development
  • Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced, rapid turnover, high patient volume area with little supervision
  • General good health and a level of fitness appropriate for the demands of the position
  • Ability to communicate in French – asset

 

EDUCATION/TRAINING EXPERIENCE:

  • Current Certificate of Registration issued through the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current Basic Rescuer (C) recognized by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario
  • EKG Interpretation Certificate required OR successful completion of arrhythmia Interpretation and Intervention exams - will be tested
